Chanel® is a French luxury fashion house that was founded by couturière Coco Chanel in 1910. The venture began as a hat shop, then expanded into clothing and perfume as Chanel’s® popularity in Paris grew. The 1920’s saw the dawn of the Chanel® Suit, as well as what she coined the “Little Black Dress”.

In 1929 Chanel designed her first handbag, but it was not until February of 1955 that Chanel designed her first classic quilted shoulder bag, fittingly named “2.55”. This original bag had what is referred to as the Mademoiselle lock closure which would later be replaced with the now iconic interlocking “CC” closure when Karl Lagerfeld took over design for the house in the 1980’s.
